Amazon Prime followers in Canada will not escape the increased subscription price this time around. Those people will pay an extra $2 a month, or an extra $20 a year, to access the web giant’s expedited delivery, video, music and video game streaming services.
This is the first price increase planned for Canadians since the service launched in the country in 2013.
Amazon Prime members in the United States have already suffered several price increases over the years. These people pay US$15 (CA$19) for their monthly subscription, and US$139 (CA$176) for their annual subscription to the service.
In Canada, the cost will increase from $8 to $10 per month, and from $79 to $99 per year. The subscription plan for students will increase from $4 to $5 per month.
Amazon Prime subscribers will see their bill increase from May 13, but new customers are already subject to the new rate.
Amazon Prime justifies this increase by the arrival of several great titles in its online viewing catalog, including a new series on the world of Lord of the Rings (Lord of the Ring).
Amazon Prime membership includes expedited package delivery, streaming movies and sometimes-exclusive TV shows, and a catalog of music and video games.
