Baby Shark surpasses 10 billion views on YouTube

Present on YouTube since June 17, 2016, the popular (and haunting) ritornello Baby Shark exceeded 10 billion views on Thursday, far ahead of the song Despacito by Luis Fonsi (7.7 billion views).

While the song has been featured in children’s books for a good hundred years, it has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to the version produced by Pinkfong, a Korean company specializing in educational content for young children.

Even if Baby Shark makes it possible to popularize an animal generally unloved by children (the shark), its irritating melody does not appeal to everyone.

It has also been used in the city of West Palm Beach to prevent homeless people from settling down for the night in a park by the water.
