Canada and allies announce new sanctions against Belarus

The government of Belarus is subject to new economic sanctions from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU). The Belarusian government immediately retaliated, calling the sanctions “absurd”.

Minsk is accused of human rights violations and of organizing the passage of migrants to theEU.

We have again taken co-ordinated sanctioning measures against certain persons and entities, can we read in a joint statement released on Thursday.

On the issue of the migration crisis, the tone is just as firm.
