COVID-19: Will the 3rd dose soon be mandatory in companies? | Coronavirus

The Chandos Construction company, which has dozens of construction sites in Canada, requires that its employees be vaccinated.

The question is when will this policy include booster doses?, says its president, Tim Coldwell.

He says he is closely monitoring the decisions of the various levels of government.

We have decided that we will follow the definition of “fully immunized” from the federal and provincial governments. Today is two injections, but at some point in the future it could be three.

When it does, we’ll demand it, continues Tim Coldwell.

Today, a person is considered to be fully vaccinated if they have received two doses of the Moderma or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, or one dose of the Janssen vaccine.

Currently, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends offering a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine to all Canadians over the age of 18 and is insisting strongly for those over 50 to receive it.

But the National Advisory Committee on Immunization is also studying the scientific evidence which suggests that the third dose should be part of the normal vaccination cycle.

On Sunday, during an interview with CBC, Federal Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos suggested that the definition of fully vaccinated could be extended to the 3rd dose.

It’s likely, he said. This is almost certain because that is how the history of vaccination is made, with vaccines that are completely effective for a limited time.

Policies to review

James Lingwood, an employment law specialist at the firm Mc Lennan Ross, explains that some companies will have to review their policies to make the booster dose mandatory.

If their policy explains what it means to be fully immunized and it does not meet the government’s definition, in this kind of situation, the employer will have to rewrite their policy, inform their staff.

According to Cheryl Camillo, a health scientist at the University of Regina, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization It is right to look at the definition of the vaccination cycle. She thinks it’s a good thing that the definition of what a full vaccination is continues to evolve.

Our health authorities follow the most recent scientific data, she concludes.
