Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social – the name of the social network – did not immediately follow up.
The future platform was presented by the former president as an alternative to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, from which he is banned for having incited his followers to violence before the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
TMTG teamed up with an already publicly traded company, Digital World Acquisition Corp, to raise US $ 293 million (C $ 373 million) in September on Wall Street.
The two groups then announced in early December that they had obtained another commitment to the tune of one billion US dollars (1.27 billion Canadian dollars).
Find your way into a crowded market
In total, by removing the transaction costs, TMTG thus has around 1.25 billion US dollars (1.58 billion Canadian dollars) to attack its competitors in the already very crowded market of social networks popular with ultraconservatives.
Gettr, launched in early July by Donald Trump’s former adviser, Jason Miller, but also Parler and Gab, have already positioned themselves with the former president’s loyalists as guarantors of freedom of expression, escaping network censorship social services for the general public.
Gettr has just scored a point thanks to a tweet from Joe Rogan, commentator of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and host of the most popular podcast in the world, who called on Sunday his subscribers to join him on the platform.
