Ghislaine Maxwell guilty: “no one is above the law”

I hope this verdict will bring comfort to all who need it and show that no one is above the law., said in a statement on Twitter Annie Farmer, one of the four plaintiffs in the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell.

Even the powerful and privileged will be held accountable when they sexually assault and exploit young people, added the 40-year-old, the only woman to have testified without a pseudonym to expose Ms Maxwell’s sex crimes.

The former figure of the international jet set was found guilty by Manhattan Federal Court of a series of sex crimes, in particular the most serious: the trafficking of underage girls between 1994 and 2004, for the benefit of his former companion Jeffrey Epstein who committed suicide in prison in August 2019.

Ms Maxwell, 60, faces decades in prison, but a sentencing date has yet to be set by the US courts. Her lawyer Bobbi Sternheim has announced her intention to appeal.

Another accuser of Epstein, Theresa Helm, who was not a party to Maxwell’s trial, called the latter, in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation, of manipulation queen.

Ghislaine Maxwell will never have the opportunity to take anything from anyone again. She’s gone to the other side of freedom. We survivors are free, she told British television.

The prosecution described Ghislaine Maxwell in sophisticated predator who knowingly acted to attract and seduce young girls and deliver them to Epstein.

In addition to this multimillionaire who died at 66, the shadow of British Prince Andrew, a close friend of Epstein and Maxwell, has hovered over this trial: since last August he has been the subject of a complaint in New York for sexual assault 20 years ago, filed by an American now in her forties, Virginia Giuffre.

Welcoming the verdict on Wednesday evening, Ms Giuffre recalled having experienced the horror of Maxwell’s attacks and paid tribute to all the other girls and young women who suffered at her hands and whose lives she destroyed. She said she hoped that other than Maxwell accountable.
