The redesign of Final fantasy vii by Square Enix as well as Blaseball from The Game Band were also in the running for top honors.

The creative director of Hades, Greg Kasavin, accepted the award virtually, underscoring his gratitude to the organization for placing this emphasis on the video game industry with this award.

The Hugo, the most prestigious science fiction prize according to their website, have mainly rewarded American and English-speaking works since 1953. In recent years, the categories have modernized, extending to the digital sector, in particular with a section on podcasts and another on streaming videos.

The organization had announced the creation of the new category of the best video game in 2020, which was presented for the first time this year. However, it is not yet known whether the ceremony will repeat the experience in 2022.
