Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are “skating”, according to Moscow | War in Ukraine

During an exchange with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the Russian President specified that such discussions would only be possible if the ongoing talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations led to concrete results.

He added that the Ukrainian authorities were not trying to reach mutually acceptable solutions and accused them of being fickle during negotiations.

During this telephone conversation, which took place two days after Charles Michel’s visit to kyiv, the President of the European Council underlined very clearly the unacceptability of the war in Ukraine launched on February 24 by Russia and detailed the cost of the sanctions that the European Union imposed on Russia, specified the European official.

Charles Michel also called for the establishment of a ceasefire on the occasion of the upcoming Orthodox Easter celebrations this weekend, and pleaded for the establishment of secure evacuation corridors to allow civilians to flee besieged Ukrainian cities.

The Russian army has said it is ready to observe a truce at the Azovstal industrial site (New window)which has become the last pocket of Ukrainian resistance in the city of Mariupol, in order to allow civilians to leave and combatants to surrender.

However, President Putin insists that kyiv prevents the surrender of its soldiers.
