One Million Refugees Flee Ukraine in One Week, UN Says | War in Ukraine


In just seven days, we have witnessed the exodus of one million refugees from Ukraine to neighboring countriesMr. Grandi tweeted.

For millions more inside Ukraine, it is time for the guns to be silenced so that humanitarian assistance can arrive and save liveshe implored.

Mr. Grandi planned to travel over the next few days to Romania, Moldova and Poland, three countries hosting large numbers of Ukrainian refugees on their soil.

The General Assembly of theUnited Nations adopted on Wednesday, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution which demands that Russia immediately stop using force against Ukraine.

On the ground, the Russian forces continued their progress with in particular the capture of Kherson, a large city in the south of the country.

This military advance by Russia comes just hours from talks around a ceasefire to which it has agreed.

These negotiations will start on Thursday morning at a place in Belarus located not far from the border with Polandsaid Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky.

Initial discussions on Monday, also in Belarus, had yielded no tangible results, Kiev having demanded an immediate end to the invasion, while Moscow had seemed to expect a surrender.

In addition, a Ukrainian observer from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) died on Tuesday during the bombing raid of Kharkiv by Russian forces, announced Wednesday evening the only international body still present in Ukraine.
