Popcorn Time, the popular platform for its pirated series and movies, is no longer

A note showing an illustration of a bag of popcorn with eyes shaped like a x posted on the web was attributed to the group that kept the site alive. Media, including Bloomberg, also received a message from the developers to this effect.

Created in 2014, the service had become so popular that the following year, Netflix management warned its investors of the risks it posed.

Popcorn Time has disappeared several times in the past and was regularly monitored by authorities, according to Bloomberg. However, the fact that its source code was open source allowed others to release new versions.

The service itself did not host any content, but rather made it possible to link consumers with computers that had these series and films pirated through the BitTorrent system.

Its simple and user-friendly platform, resembling a legitimate service, had attracted many Internet users.

Nothing excludes the appearance of a new version of the service, but the closing note released this week included a graph showing the steady decline in Internet users’ interest in Popcorn Time in queries on Google over the past few years.
