Inaugurating the antenna, journalist Tom Newton Dunn, face and right shoulder forward, introduced TalkTV as a bold new chain
in a visual – blue dotted with yellow – and incisive sound dressing.
After a news program with catchy subjects – British soldier captured in Ukraine, inclusive writing and Prince Andrew – the channel aired an interview with the former American president conducted by presenter Piers Morgan, known for his virulent salient remarks aimed at the politically supposed correct.
A promotional video clip from the show, titled Uncensoredshows Donald Trump abruptly leaving the room after heated exchanges over the 2020 US presidential election which he claimed was stolen from him.
In a statement, the former president said Mr Morgan had tried illegally and deceptively cutting off his long and tedious interview
.
Everything will be there
replied the journalist, who presented his show as a fearless platform for lively debates
and celebrating everyone’s right to have an opinion
.
In the interview, Donald Trump assures that he, when he was in power, threatened his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin like we’ve never threatened him before
about the prospect of an invasion of Ukraine, declining to say more.
The interview marks the great return of Piers Morgan since he left in March 2021, live, the morning of the ITV channel. He had accused Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry, of lying, who had mentioned in an interview her suicidal thoughts and the lack of support from the royal family.
According to extracts revealed by the British newspaper The SunDonald Trump – already critical of Meghan Markle in the past – agrees with Piers Morgan that the prince is controlled by his wife and that the couple will eventually separate.
TalkTV airs on UK TV, streaming platforms and YouTube, and will be hosted by journalists from around the world. Times and Suntwo newspapers owned by Mr. Murdoch.
Competition in conservative media
Designed to compete with GB News, a conservative channel launched last summer, TalkTV is entering an overcrowded British media landscape.
Already in June 2020, Mr Murdoch’s group, News Corp, had launched Times Radio, supposed to compete with BBC Radio 4, the public news channel.
While the 91-year-old Australian tycoon has long been angered by UK legislation that bans pro-Trump content – which he can, however, broadcast on his Fox News channel in the US – he has found fertile ground for his empire in the Kingdom. United in the polemics and the agenda anti woke
of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
And he has the advantage of a good relationship with the Conservative government, which recently targeted the BBC and Channel 4, another public broadcaster.
Mr Murdoch’s real aim is to bang the BBC
says Jean Seaton, professor of media at the University of Westminster and official historian of the public audiovisual group.
The BBC and public broadcasters are a thorn in the side of News International’s strategic business interests [la filiale britannique de News Corp]
she added.
According to Ms Seaton, it is about denigrating British institutions for the benefit of a political imperative, without an alternative vision
