On Friday evening, Russia announced the expulsion of 18 European Union (EU) diplomats from Moscow, in retaliation for the expulsion of the 19 diplomats from the Russian mission to theEU and the European Atomic Energy Community, a body responsible for coordinating research programs on nuclear energy.
In its reaction, the European Union declared that the expulsions announced by Russia were baseless and that the diplomats of theEU targeted were working within the framework of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
