Before the leadership meetings begin, the President of the United States will tap an appearance on the television show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Canada, who arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, will hold talks on Wednesday with his counterpart from Barbados, Mia Mottley, on environmental issues. Later, he will participate in a roundtable with leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss climate change, the defense of democratic values and the promotion of gender equality.
He will also discuss with General Motors International Chairman Shilpan Amin electric vehicles, climate goals and efforts to boost economic growth.
Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau will meet at the end of the day, when the president welcomes all delegations at the official opening ceremony of the Summit of the Americas.
On Tuesday, Justin Trudeau and Minister of National Defense Anita Anand held talks in Colorado with U.S. and Canadian commanders of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, and US Air Force General Glen VanHerck, current joint commander of the NORAD.
The United States and Canada have agreed that the NORADthe only binational defense system of its kind in the world, badly needs improvements if it is to counter potential aggressors like Russia and China.
But neither Mr. Trudeau nor Ms. Anand offered any clues about what initiatives might be taken.
