Demonstrators held up signs that read: Down with France, down with ECOWASthe Community of West African States.

ECOWAS has been particularly in the sights of part of the Sahelian populations since it imposed sanctions on Mali on January 9, supported by France.

Some demonstrators did not hesitate to criticize France, which denounced the coup.

Some demonstrators also waved Malian and Russian flags, calling for cooperation with Moscow, as the military regime in Bamako has done for several months.

To the international community, we ask to respect the will of the people which was completed by the army. To punish the army is to punish the people of Burkina Faso. »

The soldiers who came and went in the Guillaume Ouedraogo camp opposite the Place de la Nation were acclaimed by cries of joy.

The camp is among the barracks where soldiers mutinied, firing guns for hours on Sunday, the starting point of the events that culminated in the coup.

Thanks to the army, you are heroescould be heard in the crowd.

Already Monday, residents of Ouagadougou had spontaneously gathered, in the evening, after the announcement of the coup to celebrate the new leaders of the country.
