The federal government has announced the tabling of a bill to help families earning less than $90,000 a year to pay dental fees for children under 12 years old. For the community organizer at the Clinique communautaire de Pointe-Saint-Charles, Stéphane Defoy, this check for $650 per child is “absolutely insufficient”, describing the rates for dental care as “exorbitant”. He also maintains that the check makes it possible to pay for curative, and not preventive, care.
Mr. Defoy also says he is disappointed that access to dental care is hardly mentioned in the current provincial election campaign.
