The favorite travel destinations of Canadians this summer according to Google

60% of Canadians are planning to travel or have already booked a trip this year, according to data from the polling firm Ipsos.

Moreover, the chaos in passport offices and in Canadian airports does not seem to deter travellers. Search queries for international flights are now above pre-pandemic levels, according to Google in a blog post.

Destinations within Canada, which have remained more accessible during the pandemic despite non-essential travel being advised against, are also enjoying great popularity.

In the country, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Halifax are the five cities that arouse the most interest among Internet users who plan their trips using Google.

Some of the most popular Canadian tourist attractions include Canada’s Wonderland amusement park, Niagara Falls, Toronto’s Ripley’s Aquarium, and Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta.

Paris, London… classic destinations are popular

For those who wish to leave Canada’s borders to discover the world, European and American destinations are the most popular.

Paris, London, New York, Lisbon, Rome and Las Vegas are the six most popular global cities for tourists in the country this summer.

However, Canadian travelers seem to be taking their precautions this year about possible unforeseen events: searches for trip cancellation policies increased by 210% compared to last year, according to what Google notes in its blog post.

It must be said that many people have seen their travel dreams collapse in recent weeks, with several flights canceled to relieve congestion at several airports in the country which are short of manpower.
