If it was quick, the arrival of the trio was not particularly discreet. In fact, there were four full medical teams, one for me in case something happened, another for each baby. There were almost thirty people in the room, she continued.

The hatchlings were tiny, but also surprisingly sturdy. I was able to see them straight away as soon as we left the delivery room. I was able to touch them, recounted Laurence.

For nearly a month, the triplets remained at the Center hospitalier de l’Université Laval (CHUL), under the watchful eyes of specialists in premature babies.

Gradually, Laurence Fortier and Nykia Rossignol saw their little treasures gain weight and strength. Then, on December 24, the infants had their first flight when they were transferred by plane to the Chicoutimi hospital.

At home

Since last Sunday, Ellie, Jake and Mila have all been living at home in Saint-Honoré, north of Saguenay. Sadly, their moms received an unwanted visitor: COVID-19.

We have no idea where we got this from. We only went to the hospital. It’s been about a year and a half since we last saw anyone, explained Laurence.

Not surprisingly, the children were also infected. Fortunately, they quickly started to move up the slope. They had congested noses. They were more tired, more “hairy”. We’re used to happy babies, said Laurence.

This shouldn’t be taken lightly, but the pediatrician was still very, very positive. He told us that most of the babies were asymptomatic or that it passed like a cold. He reassured us, added Nykia. At first, we were really afraid that something bad would happen to them, but for the moment everything is under control.

The two young women therefore see the future with optimism. We watch each other go. We think it’s going well. Honestly, having three babies is magical in the sense that you marvel at absolutely everything they do., Nykia concluded.
